Financial Times ranks Melbourne Business School best MBA in Australia
Melbourne Business School's MBA program has been named the best in Australia, and fourth in the world for value for money, by the Financial Times.
The FT Global MBA Ranking 2019 determined the world's top 100 MBA programs, based on 20 different criteria including career outcomes for graduates, student and faculty diversity and academic research.
Melbourne Business School rose five places in this year's ranking to sit at number 61, ahead of any other Australian institution.
Current MBA student Katherine Neshek, who hails from the US, said the ranking was important for international students like herself to show employers the value of studying at Melbourne.
"I will most likely go back to the US after my MBA and having a ranking that's globally recognised is very important for when I return. The ranking provides a baseline for a future employer to compare my education with what's provided in the States," she said.
Katherine said one of the biggest differences about studying at Melbourne Business School was the diversity of students from around the world.
"The international experience I could get in the States is nothing like what I'm having here. I'm getting a global view that I wouldn’t get from a lot of schools back home. Just about everybody I'm sitting with is from a different country."
Assistant Professor Nam Tran, Academic Director of the MBA program, said the degree was distinguished from others by the number of opportunities students had to apply theories in the real world.
"In-class learning is only a small part of what students learn at Melbourne Business School," he said.
"Our Business in Asia unit, Innovation Bootcamp and internship programs provide valuable opportunities for students to apply their knowledge and gain practical insights by working with companies and industry experts."
Professor Tran said the program was being continuously updated to keep pace with the latest changes in industry.
"While being ranked number one in Australia is a testament to the quality of our MBA programs, we will practice what we teach our students by continuing to search for innovations. Our curriculum review, currently underway, has revealed a number of exciting opportunities to strengthen our programs."
