Mt Eliza strokes gold with 2008 Olympian Drew Ginn
Sep, 2008
Mt Eliza program facilitator Drew Ginn (and his rowing partner Duncan Free) won the men's pairs gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic rowing competition.
Drew's win is the result of focus, hard work, strategic goal setting and a dedication to team success. The Mt Eliza community congratulates Drew and Duncan on an amazing result.
When not busy training, setting world records, winning gold medals and developing his own business, Ginn is one of the key program facilitators on the 12 day residential Management Development Program.
Developed for middle to senior managers and managers of managers, the program is a fully integrated general management program. It aims to bridge the gap between strong technical skills and organisational experience with management and leadership competencies.
Leveraging off Australians' love of sport, one feature of the program is its use of sporting metaphors and the experiences of successful athletes to bring leadership theory to life.
We encourage the participants to consider that their workplace is no different to that of the sporting arena where all leadership can be seen and measured in one way or another. This practical approach provides an opportunity for program participants to learn from the experiences of sportspeople and teams.
In his role as facilitator, Ginn shares his Olympic learnings with program participants and a number of Mt Eliza corporate clients including Toyota, Seek, Fletcher Building, Laminex, DMO and the AFL. He provides insights into his sophisticated approach to developing high performance, winning teams.
Ginn explains how to set and achieve personal and team goals and at the end of the MDP provides a framework to enable participants to move forward with their organisations.
The Management Development Program also provides the opportunity for participants to learn about teamwork from the coach of the gold medal winning 2000 Sydney Olympic Australian Women's Water Polo Team, Dr. Istvan Gorgenyi.
A Munich water polo silver medalist, Gorgenyi is uniquely placed to help managers, their teams and their organisations achieve optimal performance. His sporting experience along with his background in social work and therapy combine to provide a powerful platform from which to examine team dynamics.
Another key feature of the program includes experiencing team work first-hand. This includes participants sitting in with the musicians of the VCA Symphony Orchestra as they rehearse. Participants also attend an Australian Football League football game to observe team dynamics and reflect on the experience.
The next Management Development Program will run from 16-27 March 2009.
