MBS alums earn national leadership awards

May, 2006

Three Melbourne Business School alumni have been recognised as the "next generation of leaders" by the Australian Davos Connection (ADC) through its 2006 Future Summit Leadership Awards.

Alumni to receive the prestigious awards were:

Mr Sean Rooney (EMBA 2004), Australian Government Business Manager, CSIRO
Mr James van Smeerdjik (MBA 1995), CEO, Allen Consulting Group
Dr Greg Lavery (Accelerated Management Program 2003), Clean Energy Manager, Origin Energy Retail Limited

Marc Stigter, who teaches on the School's Advanced Management Program, also received one of the prestigious leadership awards.

The ADC gives the awards annually to “exceptional leaders in prominent positions in their field as well as to leaders who are destined for greatness”.  The awards were presented at the ADC's annual Future Summit, which was held recently in Brisbane.

The ADC says the awards recognise leaders who have the creativity and insight to pursue innovative and far-sighted projects and have “demonstrated a commitment to creating a better future for Australia”.

ADC Chairman Mr Michael Roux said the Leadership Awards were founded to both recognise and support the new generation of Australia’s leaders.

“Effective leadership is crucial for taking Australia forward and we need to make sure that our up-and-coming leaders are inspired and empowered to make the right changes and decisions,” he said.

At the Summit, awardees articulate and help develop proposals that deal with critical issues for Australia including global warming, national security, public health and the globalisation of Asia.
