MBS Indigenous Scholarship recipient achieves dream role at NAB
Aug, 2006
An MBA from Melbourne Business School allowed Glen Brennan to change his life and make the move to big business.
Despite his impressive achievements at the age of 31, which included a stint as a Canberra Raiders’ rugby player, his appointment as head of the Australian Sports Commission’s Indigenous Sports Unit, Queen’s birthday public service medal and being named in The Bulletin’s list of the 100 Smartest and Most Innovative Australians, Glen wanted to test himself in corporate Australia.
Glen successfully applied for the NAB Indigenous Scholarship at Melbourne Business School. His personal and professional transformation commenced in January 2005.
“The experience was fantastic,” he says. “I not only enhanced my business skills and experience, but I also met a talented network of new friends. The MBA at Melbourne Business School was one of the best experiences of my life.”
After graduating in May 2006, Glen was appointed as the Manager of NAB’s new $18m Micro-Enterprise Development initiative, within the Corporate Social Responsibility unit. This initiative provides affordable small loans, business training and mentoring to those who have been traditionally marginalised from mainstream banking.
This role allows Glen to experience the best of both worlds: exposure to corporate finance and helping to bridge the gap that exists between the ‘haves and the have nots’ in Australia.
“This is my dream job,” says Glen. “My role at the NAB allows me to help people achieve their dreams. I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to complete the MBA at Melbourne Business School and I’m glad I’ve made the switch.”
The NAB Indigenous Scholarship at Melbourne Business School is on offer for the full-time MBA intake in January 2007 and applications close 30 November 2006.
