Lessons in philanthropy
Sep, 2007
Members of the Alumni Advisory Council and MBS leadership joined other Australian tertiary institutions this month for a master-class in developing philanthropic support, similar to first tier institutions in Europe and North America.
The master class, hosted by MBS, marked the launching of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) operations in Asia-Pacific.
CASE President John Lippincott, with colleagues from Case International Joanna Motion and CASE Asia Pacific Krista Slade, provided global perspectives on best practice. Dean John Seybolt, Director of Advancement Clare Pullar and consultant Frankie Airey contributed papers on the imperatives for Australian institutions achieving aspirational goals through partnerships with philanthropists.
“Melbourne Business School was founded through philanthropy,” said Dean Seybolt. “Philanthropy built our Carlton campus and gave us the financial foundations which underpin today’s ongoing success. Now, more than ever, our alumni play a vital role as partners to see the School as a global centre of management excellence.”
“It was certainly an interesting day,” concluded Vu Tien Vy (MBA 1999), President of the Alumni Advisory Council, “It was fascinating to learn how greater financial support from our alumni and friends could catapault our School forward on an international scale.”
