2010 Women and Management Dinner

Aug, 2010

“Exceptional women, outstanding ideas”, was the fitting tagline of the 2010 Women and Management Dinner, hosted by Melbourne Business School (MBS) at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne on 5th August, 2010.

More than 600 alums, students, staff, sponsors and members of the business community attended the event, which provided a fantastic opportunity for guests to mingle and make connections with their peers and other leaders of the business community.

The Women and Management Dinner is one of Melbourne’s leading forums to celebrate the achievement of women in management, and discuss issues of gender and diversity in the workplace.

MBS was delighted to welcome keynote speaker Elizabeth Proust AO, Chairman of Nestlé Australia; director of Perpetual Ltd, Spotless Ltd, Insurance Manufacturers Australia Pty Ltd and Sinclair Knight Merz Pty Ltd.

For more than 25 years, Elizabeth has held leadership roles in the private and public sectors in Australia. With current debates surrounding women in management and board roles, it was timely that Elizabeth shared her insights about her career path, the risks, key decision points and lessons from her exceptional career.

“Success is possible for anyone,” Elizabeth said to the capacity crowd. “As long as they work hard, are prepared to take some risks in their careers, and not be scared to try new opportunities.”

After her speech, the floor was opened for discussion, with many guests joining Elizabeth in a lively debate about gender, diversity and success in the workplace.

President of the MBS Women and Management Club, Samantha Wright, said that it was important for women at different stages of their career to attend the event.

“For a lot of us at MBS who are in the early stages of our career, we can see what’s out there for us, and get some inspiration about what we can do as women in business.

“For the people who are further along in their career, it’s a great opportunity to mentor young people who are coming up as well,” Samantha said.
