AUSTRALIA AND THE WORLD TRADING SYSTEM: WHERE TO FROM HERE?
Over lunch hear from the MBS John Gough Professor in the Practice of International Trade, Gary Sampson, who will be presenting on Australia and the world trading system: Where to from here?
Australia is creating an array of complex regional preferential trade agreements with the US, China, ASEAN and others. At the same time, the global WTO system is struggling to complete the Doha Development Agenda. A well functioning international trading system is critical for Australia’s future. Is this “spaghetti bowl” of bilateral trading arrangements heralding the end of the global system that has greatly contributed to post war growth and stability? What does the future hold for Australia in the evolving world trading system?
