Approaches to managing diversity

Isabel Metz
Associate Professor
Organisational Behaviour
The global economy has moved diversity to the top of the business agenda. This lecture explains why it is important to manage diversity. Diversity may be good or bad for business. Organisations need to be very clear about their business case for diversity before deciding on what to do about it. To illustrate this process, two possible approaches to managing diversity (based on gender diversity) are presented. Once an airtight business case for diversity has been established and a course of action embarked upon, organisations need to then implement a monitoring and evaluation system to ensure that the business objectives are met.
