Selection criteria
The Melbourne MBA is designed for people who can make a valuable contribution to the learning experience at the School and have the personal characteristics necessary to succeed in the course.
In the application process, the Committee is looking for evidence of your:
- managerial and leadership potential
- academic aptitude
- interpersonal and communication skills
- maturity and motivation
The Selection Committee looks at the extent and scope of organisational roles and responsibilities. Involvement in professional, community, cultural and/or sporting groups is also taken into consideration. Academic capabilities are assessed by grades awarded, the reputation and standards of the institution, scholarships or prizes, and GMAT results.
Careful consideration is given to all of the information provided, particularly answers to the questions on managerial progression, leadership achievement and personal qualities which have lead to a career in management. The Selection Committee will base its judgment on a wide range of criteria and not just one indicator, such as a GMAT result. The Selection Committee will not consider applications for the full-time MBA unless the candidate meets the Essential Admission Requirements
Essential admission requirements
For entry into the full-time Melbourne MBA Program candidates must have:
- completed a three or four year undergraduate degree at a recognized tertiary institution. The program does not require candidates to have studied commerce or business at undergraduate level. Professional qualifications are not an adequate substitute for an undergraduate degree
- a minimum of two years full-time post-graduation work experience. This experience need not have been at managerial level but must have been completed as at least two consecutive years of full-time employment
- a Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) score. The School will not waive the GMAT requirement in any circumstance. For more information about the GMAT visit www.mba.com
- a good command of English. If undergraduate study was not in English, students are required to submit an IELTS score, with a minimum requirement of 6.5 or TOEFL score with a minimum requirement of 610. In addition to ensuring that non-native English speakers can cope with the language demands of the MBA, an IELTS score is now a mandatory requirement for many candidates seeking to study in Australia on a Student Visa. The School is unable to waive this language requirement in any circumstances
