Scholarships & prizes

A generous range of scholarships are available to support full-time study at Melbourne Business School. All successful MBA candidates are automatically considered for scholarship support and successful candidates are notified as part of the admissions process.

There are a number of scholarship decision making rounds before each intake and prospective students are encouraged to apply early to ensure that they are considered for all scholarship opportunities.

Candidates awarded a Foundation Scholarship in early rounds are also considered for later round scholarships, such as the Rupert Murdoch Fellowships.

Scholarships vary in value. Candidates are advised that competition for scholarship support is intense and you should not apply for the MBA program unless you are able to be entirely self-funding.

The Rupert Murdoch Fellowships

News Limited established the Rupert Murdoch Fellowship Scheme to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of The Australian newspaper. Fellowships provide a generous living allowance and meet the full costs of tuition. Murdoch Fellows must study at Melbourne Business School on a full-time basis and complete a term of their MBA studies at a prestigious overseas business school. Rupert Murdoch Fellowships recognise achievements, initiative and commitment in areas beyond career or academic record and are awarded to men and women who have an interest in international business and have demonstrated a capacity to motivate and lead others.

The National Australia Bank Indigenous MBA Scholarship

(Available only to students who are descended from, identify with, and are accepted by a designated Australian Indigenous community.)

This scholarship, jointly endowed in 2003 by The National Australia Bank, Melbourne Business School and the Commonwealth Government, enables one indigenous student per annum to study full-time for an MBA. With a value of approximately $70,000, the scholarship covers tuition fees for all 20 subjects, a book allowance of $100 per subject, and a living allowance. www.nab.com.au

The BHP Billiton Indigenous MBA Scholarship

This scholarship, jointly endowed in 2002 by BHP Billiton Ltd, Melbourne Business School and the Commonwealth Government, enables one Indigenous student per annum to study full-time for an MBA. The scholarship covers fees for all 20 subjects, a book allowance, and a living allowance. The scholarship is awarded to Indigenous Australians who have a track record of motivating and organising others, and achieving valuable outcomes, in entrepreneurial, community, business, artistic and/or sporting activities.www.bhpbilliton.com

The Dean's International Management Scholarship

The Dean’s International Management Scholarships are Melbourne Business School’s first full-tuition scholarships, available exclusively to international students. The scholarship program has been established to increase opportunities for international students, and reflects our commitment to international diversity. The scholarships recognise the high calibre of international students commencing in our full-time MBA program each year. Awarded on merit, the scholarships recognise candidates who demonstrate academic excellence, high level management qualities, and who have experience in international business. The scholarships are available at both our January and September full-time MBA intakes.

The Nobby Clark Fellowship

In recognition of his valuable contribution to Australian business in general, and Melbourne Business School in particular, the Melbourne Business School Foundation Ltd. created the Nobby Clark Fellowship scheme. One new Fellowship a year, worth up to $25,000 towards course tuition, is awarded to full-time MBA students.

The MBS Centre for Business and Public Policy Scholarship

A new MBA scholarship to develop Australian leaders within the fields of business and public policy is now available from Melbourne Business School.

The annual scholarship program provides partial tuition for the School’s prestigious full-time MBA. It has been designed for outstanding young professionals with strong academic ability, leadership potential and demonstrated experience in business and public policy.

The H J Heinz Scholarship

The Trustees of the HJ Heinz Foundation established a fund from which a $12,500 scholarship is awarded annually. Key criteria includes the academic performance and potential of the students, and the success achieved in work experience programs.

The Helen Macpherson Smith Fellowship

The Helen Macpherson Smith Trust has established a special fund to assist women to study, teach and research in management. Macpherson Smith Fellowships of up to $25,000 are awarded each year to outstanding women who have demonstrated that they have the potential to reach senior levels in management or to create and run their own business.

The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program

The main objectives of this Program are to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of the Bank's developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies at selected institutions in the Asia-Pacific region; and to help scholars contribute to development in their home countries after completion of their studies. The scholarship covers tuition, books, subsistence allowance, medical insurance and travel subsidies.

ASEAN – Singapore Alumni Scholarship

(Available to residents/citizens of Asia, who reside in South East Asia)
The ASEAN – Singapore Alumni Scholarship is valued at 25% of the MBA program fees, and is awarded to a full-time MBA student commencing study at MBS. Candidates are selected based on the strength of their overall application, ambassadorial qualities and ability and motivation to contribute to both MBS extra-curricular life and their relevant Alumni Chapter after graduation.

The MBA Class of 68 Scholarship

To commemorate their 30th Reunion, members of this MBA Class established a scholarship, which is now valued at $12,500 to be awarded each year to full-time MBA applicants.

The MBA Class of 69 Scholarship

To commemorate their 30th Reunion, members of this MBA Class established a scholarship, which is now valued at $12,500 to be awarded each year to full-time MBA applicants.

MBS Foundation Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to full-time MBA candidates who have demonstrated business leadership in either small or large organisations and are valued at $12,500.

The EMBA Class of 2003 Travel Scholarship

Inspired by a month-long study-trip to Europe, the 2003 Executive MBA Class gave generously to support a travel scholarship in their name. Their donations now fund a yearly travel bursary, valued at $5,000, for an MBA student to gain more from their exchange to another top ranking international business school.

The John Clemenger Memorial Prize

The John Clemenger Memorial Prize was established in memory of John Clemenger OBE, in appreciation of the many services he had provided to the development of Victoria, to Lawn Tennis in Australia, and to his chosen profession of advertising. As Melbourne Business School’s flagship prize, it has been awarded annually since 1965 to the top student in the Master of Business Administration.
