Application process/apply now
To apply for a place in the MBA Program, you will need to supply:
- a completed Melbourne Business School application form.
- a verified transcript of all your post-secondary academic records.
- two confidential referees' reports.
- an original or certified copy of your GMAT score.
- your curriculum vitae.
- written responses to a number of personal statements asked in the application form.
- evidence of English language proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL) if necessary.
- evidence of your citizenship or residency status. This can be a certified copy of your passport or birth certificate.
Candidates may submit any other supporting documentation that they believe will strengthen their application.
Referees reports
Candidates are required to submit two confidential referees reports, using the forms included in the application form. Referees should be people of good standing who know you well; referees who have knowledge of you in a business environment are most useful. You do not necessarily need a reference from your current employer.
Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
The GMAT measures a person's ability to read, understand and reason logically with both verbal and quantitative material. It does not measure knowledge in specific subjects. The Selection Committee sets no minimum score for GMAT performance, but uses it as one of several indicators of a candidate's ability to benefit from the Program.
In many countries, the GMAT is now a computer adaptive test (CAT) and appointments to undertake the GMAT can be made fairly easily.
You can register for the GMAT by contacting the test co-ordinator in your home country. Details of these contact numbers are available at the GMAT website: www.mba.com
When completing your enrolment information for the GMAT, please state the University of Melbourne code (1ZK-LW-59) (MBA, Full-time) and your GMAT score will be sent directly to the School. GMAT scores are valid for 5 years.
The GMAT is administered by:

English proficiency
The Melbourne MBA requires a high level of English proficiency. If your first language is not English and you have not undertaken tertiary study in English, a language test is a pre-requisite to assess your ability to cope with the course.
The minimum IELTS score (overall band) for admission to the MBA is 6.5. The minimum TOEFL score required is 610.
The Australian government now requires candidates from a number of countries to have undertaken the IELTS prior to submitting an application for a student visa. As a result, the School is unable to waive this language requirement.
Please visit the website for the Department of Immigration & Multicultural & Indigenous Affairs for more detailed information and visa requirements. http://www.immi.gov.au/study/index.htm
Applicants living abroad can arrange to sit the IELTS through Australian diplomatic posts or through the British Council.
Timing
Admissions Decisions: Within two weeks of receipt of complete application
International Candidates: Australian student visa processing can take several months to complete. To avoid disappointment, please ensure that you submit your application as early as possible. For information about the student visa application process and lead time, please contact the Australian diplomatic mission in your home country.
Late Applications: Applications received after the closing dates above will only be processed if there are places remaining in that intake. Late applicants may be offered a place in a subsequent intake.
Deferred Entry: The School will normally allow a successful candidate to delay entry to the MBA program for one intake without submitting a new application. Longer delays may require a new application.
Successful applications
Successful applicants are normally notified within two weeks of receipt of an application at the School's Admissions Office. A formal letter of offer is sent to successful applicants detailing the Terms and Conditions of the offer and setting a deadline by which the offer must be accepted. This deadline is normally about four weeks from the date of the letter of offer.
Unsuccessful applications
Typically one in every four applicants for our full-time MBA program is successful. The school appreciates that considerable time and effort are required to apply for a place in the program and that it is disappointing to submit an unsuccessful application. However, the School regrets that it is not able to comment on specific factors which may have led to the final decision of the selection committee.
Acceptance decisions
Deciding which MBA to accept can be difficult. To assist candidates in their acceptance decisions, the School offers the following services:
School visit and Ambassador program: candidates are invited to visit the School and spend time with current students in class. Book a School visit by emailing: enquiries@mbs.edu
Alumni contact program: successful candidates are encouraged to contact alumni in their home country to discuss the Melbourne MBA experience. The alumni contact details are provided in the Letter of Offer.
Information interview: our General Manager of Market Development travels extensively and is often available to meet with prospective and successful candidates. To arrange an in-country information interview, please request an interview online.
The Admissions Officer is also on hand throughout the year to answer questions from prospective and successful candidates. Contact the Admissions Office at enquiries@mbs.edu
