Program structure
Intensive, innovative, international design
The Melbourne Business School Executive MBA (EMBA) has been specifically developed to meet the realities of today’s business environment.
- Four one-month fully-residential modules over a 14 month period
- Participants return home and to their workplace and apply their learning during the three-four month interval between modules
- No formal study requirements during those intervals
The EMBA is designed to address the challenges of long-term study commitment. This program is ideal for executives and senior managers who are ready to position themselves for the next major step in an already successful career. These managers are capable of intensive and focused study, but are time-poor.
Executives and senior managers work in demanding environments and with high expectations - for themselves and for their organisations. They need a strong grasp of business and financial concepts and the confidence to draw on many different approaches to problem solving, together with well developed leadership and personal attributes. A practical understanding of doing business in a global environment, where there is less room for experimentation and error, is also needed.
For these executives and senior managers it is increasingly difficult to take time out (12-18 months out for fulltime study) to gain the capabilities necessary to perform at a top executive level. It is too much of a career interruption, can be difficult to sustain financially and few companies want to lose valued managers for that period. Part-time study can often prove problematic for busy executives who can find it difficult to juggle, work, personal and family life and evening and weekend study.
The EMBA program is designed to broaden the leadership and management capabilities of experienced managers, all with minimal interference to your career and personal life. Based on a revolutionary modular format, it separates study requirements from business and personal commitments. So there is no need to leave your current employment and thus no loss of income. And for employers, there is minimal disruption to the workplace and immediate return on investment through improved productivity.
The program is intensive - faculty contact is up to 40 hours per week, with at least a further 30 hours of private study, preparation and group work. Classes generally run from Monday to Saturday. Opportunities exist throughout the day for students to meet with faculty for individual consultations. Evenings are devoted to preparing for the next day’s classes or syndicate work.

There are three Melbourne modules, which take place at the Melbourne Business School’s fully residential facility in Carlton. One module is international and is conducted in the USA, Germany & China. Students must be in-residence for the duration of each module.
