Centres of Excellence
Three innovative Centres of Excellence operate out of Melbourne Business School- The Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre, The Centre for Ideas and The Economy and The Centre for Ethical Leadership.
The creation of these Centres of Excellence enables MBS to proactively engage with new sectors of industry and society and contribute insights to existing sectors. Each Centre of Excellence has a specific focus area and a goal to build on the strong foundation of knowledge across MBS.
All Centres bring together progressive thought leaders to focus on key issues affecting the business and community landscape. Specifically, Centres of Excellence output extends to research, case studies, knowledge transfer, program design and delivery innovations, and the facilitation of topical discussion and debate between varied constituencies.

Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre
The Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre embodies our desire to contribute tangibly and intangibly to our broader community and constituents by working across all sectors (non-profit, business and government) and by engaging our alumni, businesses and community partners in our activities in new ways.
The Helen Macpherson Smith Chair of Leadership for Social Impact was established in 2008 with a grant of $1,500,000 from the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust. The Trust's grant for a new Chair supports new opportunities for scholars, teachers and practitioners to collaborate in tthe creation of new and deeper insights into leadership theory and practice, and to use these insights to design more impactful leadership development.
The Centre for Ideas and The Economy
Innovative public policy and business practice require the generation, evaluation and dissemination of new ideas/proposals. The Centre for Ideas and The Economy has been established to provide a critical mass of expertise in the areas required to develop these ideas and stimulate their adoption in relevant business or policy circles.
Centre for Ethical Leadership
The ethical challenges confronting leaders in today’s organisations are complex and dynamic. Now, more than ever, our society – our world – has an urgent need for ethical leadership.
Launched in early 2010, the Centre for Ethical Leadership offers a range of initiatives to develop and promote ethical leadership.
